Jeremy Kyle recovering after secret testicular cancer battle

A spokesman said: "It has been really tough for him and his family. But he wanted to let you all [his fans] know he appreciates your continuing support."

An ITV spokeswoman added: ''We wish Jeremy well and are pleased that he is making such good progress.

''We hope that he is back on his feet soon and look forward to him returning to work when he is ready.''

Kyle was a salesman before his move into broadcasting, hosting programmes in local radio.

He went on to present his Virgin Confessions show on Virgin Radio before landing his TV slot after Trisha Goddard left her daytime ITV series to head to Channel 5.

Kyle has also launched his programme in the US and has fronted other shows for ITV.

In his autobiography, I'm Only Being Honest, the twice-married presenter talked about how he suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

He has been married to his second wife Carla, the mother of three of his children, for the past 11 years.

Figures show that testicular cancer affects one man in 450 before the age of 50 and is the most common cancer in men between the ages of 15 and 45.

The number of cases in Britain has doubled in the past 40 years and around 2,200 new cases are diagnosed each year.
