Cadillac considering a new flagship sedan, big crossover | Biz Beat ...

?

Cadillac plans to build a new flagship sedan that will compete with high-end German cars like the BMW 7-series and Mercedes-Benz S-class, Automotive News says.

For years, General Motors has vowed to ?make Cadillac fully competitive with the premium German brands, recently introducing the ATS sedan to try to take on the vaunted BMW 3-series.

Cadillac also plans to unveil a larger CTS sedan next year that would be better positioned against the 5-series BMW, according to Automotive News.

GM officials declined to comment, saying they don?t discuss future products.

But Automotive News also claimed that Cadillac is considering a new large crossover vehicle. Various car magazines have speculated for the last couple of years that Cadillac wants to convert ?the Escalade full-size SUV from a truck platform to a car-based crossover.

The Escalade, built at the GM Assembly Plant in Arlington, is one of the last full-size luxury SUVs still built on a truck platform.

The new SUV ? whatever Cadillac calls it ? vwould be built on the Lambda platform that currently supports the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia, Automotive News said.

As for the flagship sedan, its design would be influenced by the stunning Ciel Concept (pictured above) and would be powered by a V-6 or a V-8 coupled to an 8-speed automatic, the publication said.
